If you want to buy skateboard decks you are in the right place. In our skateboard shop we have hundreds of models and brands, in different sizes so you can choose the one that best suits you.

We all know that the skateboard deck is one of the elements of the skateboard on which our feet rest. It is usually made of several layers of wood and has different sizes and shapes to suit each skater and their particular characteristics.

How to choose a skateboard deck

Here we are going to give you some information on how to choose your skateboard deck, so that it suits your needs and your skating style.

If you are looking for a complete skateboard, in the complete skate section you have a great selection of skateboards already assembled and ready to ship or you can also choose the skateboard you like the most and configure your own complete skateboard with a 15% discount in our Personalised Skateboard

Which skateboard deck to buy?

If you have never bought a skateboard Deck before, we are going to explain the points to look out for when choosing a skate deck.

Remember that when you buy a skateboard deck in our skate shop, you have the minimum price guarantee and the sanding is included in the price.

Measurements of a Skateboard Deck

The measurements of a skateboard deck is one of the most important factors when choosing which skateboard to buy. You need to choose the deck width that best suits you, taking into account what kind of skateboarding you do, your foot size and your height.

All boards have the width measurement specified in inches in the name, but you can also use our filters (in the left column) to search for a specific measurement.

Here you can see a general table of the recommended width according to the number of feet you have, which is also a factor that is usually related to your height. This is only an initial recommendation, as the type of use you intend to make of your skate is also very important.

Feet Size Deck's Width (inches)
< 35 (and children up to 8 years old) 7.0 - 7.5
35-39 7.5 - 7.8
40-42 7.75 - 8.0
42-44 8.0 - 8.25
44 or larger 8.1 - 8.6+

If you are going to use it mainly for very technical tricks, narrower sizes are usually used to allow you to move the deck more easily and if you are going to use your skate mainly for moving or ramping, wider decks are used to provide more stability.

In any case, within these ranges, which are the most common, in the end it is a matter of taste and ideally you can try several decks sizes until you find the one you feel most comfortable with.

Concave and shape of Skate Decks

Skateboards Decks are not all the same. In addition to materials, construction technology and design, they can vary in shape and concave.

The concave of the skateboard deck

The concave is the curvature of the central part of the board, which can be very pronounced (high concave) or slight (low concave). The purpose of the concave is to give the board a better response and a better grip on contact with the feet. The higher the concave, the more grip you will have and the easier it will be to move the board in technical tricks like flips. A softer concave, on the other hand, will give you a feeling of more freedom and comfort. Ideally, you should try several concaves to see which one you feel more comfortable with. If you don't have that possibility, a medium concave would be ideal to start with.

The shape of the skateboard deck

The shape of the board varies in terms of nose (front) and tail (back). For example, old school decks have a sharper nose and a wider tail. The angle of these parts in relation to the deck can also vary, and even the way they curve. If you need more information about the specific concave and shapes of each brand, don't hesitate to ask us.

Skateboard Deck technologies and materials

As you may have noticed, there are times when the price differences of skateboards are very significant. In many occasions these depend mainly on the materials and the way in which each deck is constructed. The most common nowadays are the ones made with seven maple boards. From there, many brands offer so-called technical models that offer various improvements in materials or type of construction, always with the intention of increasing the resistance to breakage, and reduce the weight as much as possible.

The best material for skateboards is Canadian maple. Different glues are used to glue these boards together, although the best results are obtained with boards glued with epoxy resin ("resin" boards). Then each brand has its own way of pressing the whole board, which makes the prices vary. Some of the variants available are making the boards thinner, adding carbon fibre discs (or a whole board, or two, or all three), or fibreglass, and a long etcetera. You can check out all the available technologies in our Board Technology Guide.

Skateboard brands

This question is one of the most frequently asked questions we get every day and, unfortunately, there is no single answer.

The choice of a skate brand is something very subjective that responds to many parameters that can be more or less important for each one. Some of them are the materials, the values of the brand, the shape, the technology used, the price, the graphics, the riders on the team, etc.

There are skaters who are loyal to one brand for years, while others prefer to try different brands every time they have to renew their skateboard.

Here, the only advice we give is that, if you are really interested in learning to ride a skateboard in a more or less serious way, you should choose a brand specialized in skateboarding, with a proven and reliable track record, because what we can say in a totally objective way, is that there is a big difference between a skateboard of a skateboard brand and a board that you can find in a toy store or supermarket.

At Fillow we have one of the biggest Skateboard catalogues in Europe and we are continuously renewing it, receiving new models every week.

All the brands you find in our shop are absolutely proven brands and will provide you with the right performance for skateboarding.

If we have to highlight some of the most important brands, we could name the following:

National skateboards Decks

Among the Spanish brands, we can highlight Nomad Skateboards, Imagine Skateboards, BdSkateco and Jart.

All of them offer high quality boards at a very affordable price. Some of them are already a reference in the European skate scene, with great teams of riders that support them.

International skateboards Decks

Here we already have some of the legendary names in skateboarding.

We work with the best known brands in the industry such as Powell Peralta, Santa Cruz, Almost, Blind, Flip, Zero, Element, Enjoi, Darkstar, Globe, Baker, Birdhouse, Creature, Colours, Chocolate, Mini Logo, Primitive, Real Skateboards, Sk8 Mafia, Girl, etc.

Skateboards Decks for kids

The best thing to do when you want to buy a skateboard decks for a kids is to opt for a complete skateboard, already assembled.

Here you can see which are the recommended sizes for each age group:

  • Skate for children 4, 5 and 6 years old: The recommended sizes for children up to 6 years old are the mini boards from 7 to 7.3
  • Skate for children 7 to 12 years old (foot size between 35 and 39): we recommend boards between 7.5 and 7.8 inches.
  • Skate for kids from 13 years old (foot size 40 to 44): 7.6 and 8.0 boards are best.
  • Skateboards for teenagers or adults with a foot size over 44: boards between 8.1 and 8.6 are best.

Cheap Skateboards Decks

Just because it's cheap, a skate deck won't give you less performance, especially in the beginning, as long as it's a skateboard brand you trust.

In fact, we recommend, as a first deck, one from the cheaper range as, at the beginning, you won't be able to appreciate the differences with a higher range board.

There are national brands such as Jart, Nomad, Imagine, etc. that offer the same quality as the big brands, but at a cheaper price. And the best known American brands, usually also have some models of first price also cheaper because they are not pro-models or do not have spectacular graphics and can save on the cost.

We also have the case of enuff skateboards, an English brand specialising in quality skateboarding for tight budgets that is becoming more and more popular.

Parts of a skateboard deck

In this picture you can see what are the different parts of a skateboard deck and how each of them is called.

  • Tail: rear part
  • Nose: front part
  • Wheelbase: distance between axles
  • Concave: the curvature of the board
  • Width: the most important measurement when looking for the right size
  • Length
